Wayne Gretzky, one of the greatest hockey players of all time, would anticipate the future, he would determine where the puck would come, as his wingers dug it out and fought it out in the corners along the boards. Sure enough the puck would come out to where “the Great One” was positioned and he would shoot on net and score!
And score he did! He got 894 goals (in the regular season) and got 1, 963 assists, totaling 2, 857 points over his 19 year career…
What you need to do in life or business is to anticipate where the puck is going to be and then be ready, mentally, physically and emotionally to bang it home for the goal!
We need to anticipate the future.
So, what are some of the trends that are shaping business and society now? That will affect us in the future and also provide opportunity into that future?
I sense global uncertainty being here to stay.
Changing job markets
Affordable housing or out of reach housing prices
A search for meaning in this wild world
Needing to turn off the onslaught of media, news and content that comes into our ears and minds
Slowing things down
Changing retail landscape
If you want more expert trends an interesting article in an online publication called, “Vision Critical” talks about 10 key trends affecting business this year. Here is the link!
Now that you know what to be aware of, how can we position ourselves as business owners, or if you work, how can you align your career in a way, that will reap rewards (or a goal) for you now and into the future?
To me, you need to be a student of the game, You have to bone up on what is going on now and into the future and begin to be prepared for what will be.
You need to take bold steps. You need to be in action by learning, new skills, networking with the right people and by making connections now to get you to where you need to be!
Take time, to learn, study, improve your skills, get mentors who are where you want to be and tap into their success formula!
Lastly, be open to change. The one trend we can count on is change.
Change is prevalent everywhere and affects us all!
Blockbuster didn’t see change coming, but Netflix did
Sears didn’t see retail and buying habits changing, but Amazon has.
Your local Taxi cab company didn’t see Uber coming, but they are right there behind the rear view mirror!
People are cutting their cable, not using mail as much, biking to work, buying online, wanting to be more social, not as engaged in politics, sensing social change is needed.
Where are you going to be positioned, so when that puck trickles out, you are right there to bang it home!
Make it a great week!
